Energizer to launch Qi-enabled Bluetooth alarm clock

Wirelessly charge your phone and stream audio via Bluetooth simultaneously

While I was walking around CES, I stumbled on Energizer’s booth. Having just acquired a Nexus 4 with Qi wireless charging capabilities, I was curious to see if they were announcing any new charging pads. That’s when I came across an alarm clock with a Qi logo on top. For those not familiar, Qi, pronounced “chee” is an up and coming standard for inductive electrical power transfer. It allows you to charge your device without having to physically plug it into anything.

The alarm clock features Qi wireless charging and also allows you to stream content to the built-in speakers via Bluetooth, which actually sounded pretty decent inside the convention hall. To pair the alarm clock to the phone, all you have to do is enable Bluetooth on your phone, place the device on top of the alarm clock and press the phone button on the alarm clock. This will bring up a prompt to pair the two devices. Once you accept the pairing request, you can play music on the alarm clock’s built-in speakers. When you receive a phone call, you can press the phone icon and use the alarm clock’s speakers as a speakerphone.

The alarm clock’s LCD broke during the show, but you would be able to see the display through the front side of the alarm clock. Pricing should be “around $120″ and available Q1 2013.
